8 Top Tips to Remember When Choosing a Laptop This Black Friday

8 Top Tips to Remember When Choosing a Laptop This Black Friday

You turn on your laptop and wait over ten minutes for it to boot up so you can use it. When you try to launch a program, it either doesn’t respond or takes forever to open. Yeah, you need a new laptop.

You’ve put it off for too long because they’re not cheap. Not if you don’t know when to shop, anyway. Choosing a laptop during Black Friday is the best time to find a deal. Everyone has their products on sale.

While Black Friday, 2020 is over, there’s always next year. Check out this guide to learn how to prepare for Black Friday and find the best deal on a brand-new computer.

1. Create Accounts Early

If you want to beat the crowds and stay away from stores, the best way to do it is by shopping online on Black Friday. This being said, most online shops start their sales at midnight. Trust us when we say, you don’t want to fuss with making an account on websites 15 minutes before sales open up.

Chances are, websites are going to be bogged down by a bunch of people who had the exact same idea you did. If you need to make an Amazon or Walmart account, do it the day before.

Some stores such as Walmart will offer you special deals if you sign up for their special credit card. You don’t have to keep it. Open up the card to get the deal and then close the account later.

Your credit score will take a small hit but you got 60 bucks off your Laptop. The problem is, there is a lot of other customers who again, are going to be doing the exact same thing.

You’re not going to want to fuss with that in the store at midnight when several other people are. You want to get your laptop and get out. Go ahead and go to the store a few days before and sign up for special memberships and cards.

2. Prepare Your Sleeping Schedule

Most of the big retailers start their sales in the late afternoon on Thursday. Some of them still do the traditional open up at midnight procedure, though. Either way, you need to be ready.

That means you should give in to the lure of the food coma after Thanksgiving dinner. If you take a really amazing turkey-induced nap, you’ll be ready to shop till you drop Thursday night.

This entire rule is flipped on its head when it comes to shopping online, however. If you login right at midnight, you’re most likely you’re going to run into lag. You should be able to beat it if you hop on 2-3 hours after the sales open up.

3. Wait Until Cyber Monday

If you sleep through Black Friday, there’s always Cyber Monday. If you’re unaware of what Cyber Monday is, let us educate you. It takes place the Monday after Black Friday and works sort of the same way.

The difference is that you’ll be shopping completely online. Sometimes the laptop computer deals you find during Cyber Monday are even better than the ones that you can get on Black Friday.

The only problem with waiting until Cyber Monday is that you risk the computer you have your heart set on selling out before you can hit that checkout button.

4. Set Your Budget

Now that you know how to prepare yourself mentally and physically for Black Friday, let’s talk about how to find the best laptop. The first thing you’ve got to do is set your budget.

This step is harder than you might think. Buying a computer with the bare minimum features is a bad idea but you don’t want to go too crazy either.

You’ve got to think about what you’re going to be using the Lenovo computer for. If you want to use it to play games and go with a weak processor because it’s cheaper, you’ll be in for a bad time. You won’t be able to get anything in your Steam library to boot up.

On the flip side of this, if you buy something with a powerful processor and only need your computer to browse the internet and scroll through Facebook, you’re paying way too much.

5. Read Reviews

With how crazy everything is on Black Friday, it’s going to be hard to get a person on the salesfloor to stop long enough to give you advice on what home laptop you should buy. So, to save time and stop yourself from buying a laptop blind, you should do some research to find out what you’re looking for before you go shopping.

Decide where you want to go for your laptop and look on their website to see what they have to offer. You can then copy-paste the computer’s information into Google and see what other people have to say about it.

6. Laptop Design

There are a lot of different laptops out there to choose from. It can feel a little daunting when you’re standing in front of a display case or staring at a webpage. The three main types are 2-in-1s, convertibles, and notebooks.

Notebooks

When you think of what a laptop looks like, notebooks most likely come to mind. They open up so you can place them on your lap and get a little work done. They’re pretty versatile and can be used for business or entertainment.

Convertibles

Convertibles are just as versatile as notebooks if not more so. The top can open and flip around 360 degrees so you can use your device in tablet, stand, or tent mode.

With convertible laptops, you’re going to be using it without a keyboard most of the time, but don’t be worried. The device should come with a pen that will make working easier.

2-in-1s

If you want the best of both worlds, you can get a 2-in-1. It comes with a keyboard that you can insert into the screen part at your convenience. So, you can choose whether or not you want to use it as a tablet or a traditional laptop.

7. Pick Your Platform

Windows vs Mac is a classic debate, but there is a third contender. Chrome OS. Choosing between these three platforms can be a bit difficult if you’re not sure what their strengths are.

Windows

Out of the three platforms, Windows is the most popular. That means that you’ll have a lot more choices when you’re looking at laptop models and specs. It also won’t be too hard for you to find one in your budget.

If you’re in the market for a gaming laptop, Windows is the operating system to shoot for. Windows computers also work well for business and are a great choice for students who are heading off to college.

Mac

If you already have an iPhone, there’s no reason not to go with Mac due to the integration. You can answer text messages, and take phone calls on your computer. If you start a project in Pages on your computer and need to leave, you can save it and pick up where you left off by pulling up your project on your phone.

We will warn you that you can’t really play games on a Mac and if you want a touch screen, you’re out of luck because none of the current models have this feature.

Chrome OS

If you want something simple and inexpensive, Chrome OS has you covered. They can’t play games or do anything fancy but they’re good for surfing the web, chatting, and doing general schoolwork.

Speaking of school, many parents choose to get Chromebooks for their middle and high school kids because it’s hard to infect them with a virus. Not impossible mind you, but difficult.

8. New or Refurbished?

If you want to get a nice laptop but don’t want to spend a ton of cash this Black Friday, consider getting a refurbished model. They’ll do what you need them to but you should keep in mind that you might run into problems at some point.

Most of the time, used laptops are good enough to be put back on the shelf but they aren’t quite in the same shape they were when they came out of the box on day 1.

The other thing you should know about refurbished laptops is that they typically don’t come with a warranty. New laptops do.
