Switching to Web 3.0 and DAPPS – Tekraze

Posted on April 18, 2018April 22, 2018 By Gaurav Raheja No Comments on Switching to Web 3.0 and DAPPS – Tekraze

When you ask people around you what is web, they will define everything regarding World Wide Web. But have you ever heard there are versions of this Web and we are looking forward at web 3.0. But before discussing about web 3.0 we should know about its predecessor. I will be discussing in a nutshell:

Table of Contents

  • Web 1.0
  • Web 2.0
  • Why we need to switch to web 3.0?
  • How it will operate?

Web 1.0

  • World Wide Web that was introduced by Tim Berners-Lee was Web 1.0, but  never being introduced as Web 1.0
  • It was just a set of some static websites with a load of information and no interactive content.
  • To connect with the network, dial up communication is used, and that connection is established through landlines and modem.
  • Social media was not smart and fast as Facebook or Whatsapp, it was the web of AOL chat rooms and MSN messenger, of AltaVista and Ask Jeeves.
  • Was drastically slow, browsing video or song online was just a dream, Even downloading takes hours or days.

Web 2.0

  • The term was popularized by Tim O’Reilly and Dale Dougherty at the O’Reilly Media Web 2.0 Conference in late 2004, though it was coined by Darcy DiNucci in 1999. Web 2.0 does not refer to an update to any technical specification, but to changes in the way Web pages are designed and used, as stated on Wikipedia.
  • Major Improvement was over speed and the way the content is represented to the user. It was no longer meant to view the content only but to participate it with the actively.
  • Popular Websites like Facebook, Youtube, Wikipedia, Flickr were introduced and got benefited after introduction of web 2.0.
  • Publishing and writing blog and articles over Internet become easy and quick. We could call this the Read-Write-Publish’ era — where the spread of information is as simple as those three words.
  • So was Web 2.0 was great helping hands to share information over world.

Why we need to switch to web 3.0?

  • Though Web 2.0 facilitate us, and made our tasks lots of easy, but it sacrifice the security. their identities, browsing habits, searches and online shopping information was sold to the highest bidder. Through their social media accounts lie facebook, twitter etc.
  • Morevor, the number of users were increasing day by day, so to handle these people data securely and safely we were need to switch to Web 3.0

The vision of a fairer and more transparent web dates back to around 2006, but the tools and technologies weren’t available for it to materialize. Bitcoin was still three years off, bringing with it the notion of a distributed ledger, or blockchain, for peer-to-peer digital storage. Decentralization was the idea; blockchain was the means. Now we have what is described as human-centered internet.

  • The pro-privacy and anti monopoly: The goal of Web 3.0  was not, only to improve security but to restrict various  economic engine to monopolize the Market and public network.

It’s easy to envision a not-too-distant future where crypto-based phones, VPN’s, decentralized storage and cryptocurrency wallets are widespread. A future without the need of network and cellular providers that suspend or surveil our information

  • No central point of control: There will be no middle man, who will control your information. and keep record of your information as blockchain will provide a secure solution to save data over network.
  • Dramatic reduction in hacks and data breaches: As the data will be stored on distributed server. The hackers will have to struggle and hack the information (Only struggle, not make them impossible to hack it)

How it will operate?

The framework connecting users with digital services are markedly different. Transactions are signed and verified manually, to prevent platforms from siphoning away personal information without due cause. Web users will opt in rather than trying — and often failing — to opt out

  • These are the few Application that is being replaced in web 3.0 by Decentralized Applications(DAPPS)
